764 Historic Recipes.

I have just updated the Recipe Archive to the end of June 2007. To my utter amazement, there are 764 historic recipes there! I had no idea that they had piled up so quickly.

The archive is HERE, if you want to look.

Hi Janet - your historic recipe archive is a fabulous resource for all cooks. Well done on a great job putting it together! Have you ever come across a "bible cake recipe"? I'm not sure how historic (or even unusual it is) but I found one in my grandmother's cookbook (and have posted about it on my blog today). It's absolutely delicious - a cross between a fruit cake and a pound cake. The unusual aspect about it is how this recipe is written. I'd be interested to know if you've ever come across anything similar, or to know if this was quite common in days gone by.

Hi Melinda; I have come across it before, sometimes it is called Scripture Cake 0r Old Testament Cake. I dont know much about it, but it seems to be a late nineteenth century idea, probably American. I've never come across anyone who has actually made it though!

Thank you for the information! I thought the recipe might have been just a gimmick that was passed around church groups and no-one actually bothered to make it, so that was my original inspiration for making it. But it works and is delicious!
